They have been known to alter consciousness, open up “doors of perception” and free the mind. Can these substances really help us understand the mentality of being free? In recent times, psychedelics have been getting more spotlight from researchers; select hospitals are undergoing psychotherapy trials involving psilocybin with terminally ill patients who are experiencing depression and anxiety, and in other countries, these drugs are being legalised in various capacities. This article questions whether the potential of psychedelics should continue to go untapped or if the taboo of hallucinogenic drugs are now becoming a thing of the past.
