“The Landlord’s Game. A phrase that seems like a bad euphemism for the current rental market as we know it; with inflation and less affordable housing opportunities, it sounds like a term one would use when submitting a rental application in the vein hope of getting the apartment.  But the Landlord’s Game is in fact, a board game. As the lesser known precursor to Monopoly, it was designed to illustrate the bad economic effect monopolising land can have on society.  And whilst many are familiar with Monopoly’s mainstream narrative that the Parker Brothers peddled in 1935, the origin of this board game began with a woman called Elizabeth Magie Phillips, who was written out of her own story.”
